Martin Luther King, Jr. Day commemorates one of America's most influential civil rights leaders. Every January, on the third Monday, this year it’s January 20th, events are held nationwide and in New York City to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.'s iconic legacy and accomplishments and highlight the importance of racial equality. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebrations in New York City

New York City has been at the forefront of the civil rights movement dating back decades. With its diverse population and the joining of various cultures, it’s been a hub for activism for generations. During his activist work to promote racial equality, Martin Luther King, Jr. made numerous stops in NYC to host events that furthered his cause. Today, the city pays homage to his work by offering the public a variety of events to honor all the work he accomplished.

39th Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. MLK Jr. at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)

  • Monday, January 20th, 2025, starting at 10:30 am. 
  • Inspirational speeches, musical performances, and family-friendly activities. 

MLK Day of Service Coastal Clean-Up at Snug Harbor, Staten Island

  • Monday, January 20th, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
  • Take part in environmental stewardship with fellow NYers.

MLK Young Changemakers: Feeding Our Future at the Apollo Theater

  • Monday, January 20th, starting at 3:00 pm.
  • Series of conversations with local and national youth leaders. 

Harlem Gospel Choir Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Matinee
