In-person events are back with a vengeance. Are you getting ready to plan your perfect event?
You have so many things to do before the big day. You need a guest list, some great event spaces, decorations, and caterers. And of course, you can't forget the photographer.
We're here to talk about how any event planner can find the best photographer for their next big event. Read on to learn more.
1. Know Your Budget
It's well-known that good photographers aren't cheap. After all, they've worked hard to learn all of the necessary skills to capture events in their full glory. You're not just paying for their time at the event itself; you're paying for their experience, their skills, and all of the time that they're going to spend editing photos for you.
With this in mind, it's still okay to have a firm budget. You want to make sure that you have enough money to pay the photographer what they deserve without taking away from other parts of your event.
Some photographers have rates on their sites, but you'll have to reach out to most of them for accurate pricing. Don't worry, they're used to it.
2. Keep Your Ideal Style in Mind
Photography is an art form. When you're choosing a photographer, make sure that you pick one that matches your ideal photo aesthetic. Even the best photographer won't be able to transition well into a style that doesn't suit them.
If you're unsure, look for some inspiration online. When you find an aesthetic that you like, start looking for photographers who produce similar work.
3. View Portfolios
Portfolios are like resumes for photographers, and almost every good event photographer will have an online portfolio that anyone can view.
Check out the photographers' websites and see if they've connected their social media. Instagram is a valuable tool for photographers and it's a great place to see current work (as many photographers upload new content several times per week).
4. Ask Your Venue or Event Planner
If you don't even know where to start, ask around! Photographers offer event services, so the other event professionals and vendors can likely point you in the right direction.
If you're working directly with another event professional, they'll likely already have some recommendations for you. Some venues also partner with photographers.
5. Ask for References
Once you start talking to a few photographers, ask them for references. They should be able to direct you toward previous clients who were happy with their work.
Some photographers have testimonials available on their sites, but getting contact information from previous clients (who consent to share it) is even better. If a photographer has plenty of happy customers, there's no doubt that they'll be happy to show off.
