Event planners know attendance is everything, followed closely by positive event reviews. Wearable event tech can generate interest, make the event unforgettable, and provide entertainment, information, and education. There are so many options out there, and there’s bound to be one to match your next NYC event. Read on to learn more about how wearable tech can increase attendance and garner engagement for your next event.

Types of wearable tech

RFID wristbands: RFID, or Radio Frequency Identification, is a method of storing information that a scanner can then read to collect that information. For example, the wristband lets attendees check-in or register for the event at a kiosk or strategically placed readers throughout the venue. This frees up staff to be present in other areas within the venue to better serve attendees. RFID wristbands can also be used to purchase and pay for goods and services at the event.

Smart Watches: These wearable smartphones offer real-time event updates and notifications, itineraries, or agendas and can encourage and include attendees to participate in polls, interactive activities, or networking. Planners can create an app that users download, and information can be provided before, during, and after the event.

NFC badges: NFC, or Near-Field Communication badges, are unique wearable tech that features a QR code on the badge. Users can scan the code for access to specific areas of the venue, no-contact interaction, or use the code as a digital business card, linking attendees to a website or social media site. Once attendees scan the QR code, information can be collected and used for attendance notifications for similar events in the future.

Event gamification

Event attendees can interact with event activities in real-time, joining group collaborations, Q&A sessions, and even fun stuff like scavenger hunts. Data collected from gamification allows planners to redirect patrons to less crowded event areas to reduce overcrowding or bottlenecks. Attendees can provide online journals, vlogs, and photos chronicling their activities and attendance at the event.

Data collection and security

Besides getting attendees involved and interacting at the event, wearable event tech provides planners with information and data. Feedback such as poll results or event reviews helps planners improve or enhance future events. EMS (Event Management Software) can catalog and retain this data. Participants in any event info exchange or collection should be made aware of how their data will be used, and event planners should make every effort to ensure this data is encrypted and secure.

Wearable tech is a game-changer for NYC event planners. It provides relevant statistics collected technologically, freeing up staff and management to work on other high-profile aspects of the event.
