Strategies for Marketing Luxury Social Events in a Crowded NYC Market

They say everyone wants a piece of the pie. And if you’re marketing luxury events to wealthy New Yorkers, you’re competing for an especially skinny slice.

NYC is home to about 350,000 millionaires. That’s just 4% of the population. And billionaires? There are only about 60 individuals with net worths stretching into seven figures. And they all have countless options on a given Saturday night.

To stand out, you need to learn how to market luxury social events to the movers and shakers of NYC.

Be Exclusive

They don’t let just anybody into their circle. So, you shouldn’t let just anyone into your luxury event. Every attendee must be qualified in some way to attend your luxury event.

Make Them Wait.

Waiting lists are like playing hard to get. By not letting them buy their tickets immediately, you make them want them more. Give your waiting list exclusive first access to encourage enrollment.

Be “By Invitation Only.”

Rate your list of potential attendees, and send invites out starting at the top of the list. Make the invitation personal, and tell them why they’ve been selected. But they can only get their tickets if they reply quickly.

Limit Tickets

Scarcity creates exclusivity. Keeping the event tickets limited means those who do attend will have more opportunity to foster stronger connections.

Create a VIP Experience

Let’s face it. Luxury is about status. And using tiered ticketing creates status within status. VIPs at your event get a personalized event experience that everyone notices, from seamless check-in to preferred seating to posher gift bags.

Curate the Right Guest List

Secure your big names early. People want to be in proximity to greatness. Socialites, celebrities, and influencers create buzz with their presence.

  • Leverage your network to establish a connection.
  • Offer free perks in exchange for their attendance.
  • Give them concierge-level treatment by assigning someone to attend to their needs.
  • Don’t be above paying influencers to attend and promote your event.

Be Fresh

Strive to give them something they haven’t experienced before. Go above and beyond a brass band at The Glasshouse. Book an A-list celebrity to entertain in an intimate setting. Give them after-hours access to a museum. Hire a celebrity chef to cook their meal. Get creative and give them something they can’t get anywhere else.
