The Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade
Memorial Day is set aside to honor the men and women who lost their lives in military service. It’s one of the few days on the calendar that carries that kind of weight, and in New York City, that recognition shows up through long-standing traditions like the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade.
The parade returns to Bay Ridge for its 159th year. It’s a NYC event that brings veterans, local groups, and residents together along Third Avenue each Memorial Day.
Memorial Day in Bay Ridge
The 2026 parade will happen on Monday, May 25th, starting promptly at 11:00 AM at 3rd Avenue and 78th Street. From there, the route moves down 3rd Avenue to Marine Avenue, continues onto 4th Avenue, and ends at John Paul Jones Park.
Veteran groups, military representatives, and local organizations make up the procession, moving through Bay Ridge as residents gather along the route. When the parade reaches the park, it will conclude with a memorial service that includes bagpipes and a flag raising. Veteran organizations will also place wreaths, followed by a 21-gun salute from the Veteran Corps of Artillery and Taps.
The Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade is an anticipated tradition in the neighborhood each year. It continues as a local event that reflects both remembrance and community presence.
