Corporate New York Event Planner: 5 Effective Ways to Become Successful

August 21, 2022 Erica Maurer

Event planning is a career that takes hard work, dedication, and creativity. There's no one path to becoming an event planner, but there are ways you can make the process easier.

In this post, we'll look at five effective strategies for becoming a Corporate New York Event Planner.

Develop Your Skills as a Corporate New York Event Planner

A successful corporate New York Event Planner must be skilled in a number of areas. These include organizational skills, creativity and imagination, and attention to detail.

Organizational skills are important for planning events because they allow you to stay on top of all your responsibilities and deadlines. If you have trouble staying organized when you're planning an event, consider creating a calendar or checklist that clearly lays out the steps involved in the process.

Creativity and imagination are also important when it comes to planning events. You need to be able to think outside the box when it comes to designing an event that meets your client's needs while also being unique and memorable.

The ability to stay organized during the planning process is crucial as well because it allows you to make sure that every aspect of your event goes smoothly once it begins.

Work for an Experienced Event Planner to Gain Experience and Learn the Ropes

Providing you have the right experience and education; you can seek out entry-level positions with event planning companies in New York. You might start as an assistant planner or junior planner, where your job will be to support more senior planners by doing research, making schedules and taking notes.

As you gain experience and work with clients on a consistent basis, it's likely that you'll move up to higher positions within the company (e.g., senior planner). In some cases, this promotion may come with a pay increase as well.

If there aren't any open positions at your current company that fit your skill set or if you're looking for something new entirely — whether that means changing industries altogether or moving from one city/country to another — consider seeking out jobs with another organization that does corporate events planning for businesses.

This could include working for an established firm with offices across multiple countries (e.g., U2's concert series), or perhaps even starting your own business in the field!

Find a Talent Agency

Finding a talent agency is the first step in becoming successful as a corporate event planner in New York. Talent agencies can help to find you work, build your resume, learn about the industry and network with other event planners and potential clients.

You may not realize it, but many people don't know what they want to do after college or even during their last year of school.

A talent agency is one way of finding out what you like doing and what makes you happy while earning some money at the same time.

Join an Organization for Event Planners

If you want to make a name for yourself in the corporate event planning world, joining an organization for event planners is one of the best ways to get started. Some of these associations include:

  • ESPA, which has more than 6,000 members from around the country and is run by a team of professionals with decades of experience in the field.

Membership includes access to training resources and discounts on professional services. With its wide reach, this association often hosts events that feature speakers from well-known companies like Uber and Airbnb as well as smaller businesses who are looking for help growing their client base.

  • CEMA (Corporate Event Marketing Association) - In addition to helping corporate event marketers (at a senior level) develop their skills, CEMA also provides a peer-to-peer environment. In the corporate event planning industry, they're all about building relationships that help establish a stronger community.

Be Passionate about What You Do

Without passion, you're unlikely to succeed in your chosen field. Your drive and ambition will help you stay motivated when things get tough and overcome obstacles that might otherwise stop others from achieving their goals.

A successful New York Event Planner is passionate about what they do. They love finding new ways to improve the events they plan; they enjoy learning new things; they look forward to working on projects that challenge them and expand their skillset.

If you're not passionate about what you do now—or if there isn't a clear path toward becoming more passionate—consider changing careers or starting an entirely new business venture where your skills are better suited for success.

While it's possible for people who aren't naturally inclined toward a certain career path (like corporate event planning) to become successful at it over time through sheer force of will alone, chances are good that such individuals won't be able to maintain long-term motivation without this necessary spark of enthusiasm driving them forward every day.

There's no one path to becoming a successful corporate New York event planner, but there are ways you can make the process easier.

The event planning industry is a great field to get into because it's diverse and constantly changing. You can work in any industry and with every kind of client, so you'll never get bored or lazy.

With that being said, there's no one path to becoming an event planner—but there are ways you can make the process easier on yourself.

Here are two things I wish I'd known when I first started out:

  1. Don't get discouraged if your first few events aren't wildly successful; everyone goes through this (including me)!

Just keep working hard and learning from your mistakes, and soon enough you'll be able to bring some amazing ideas to life for people who need them most!

  1. The best way forward is often through asking for help when needed; don't be afraid of looking dumb either :) We all have questions sometimes!

If something seems too difficult then ask someone more experienced than yourself. It doesn't matter how slowly we take steps toward success because eventually each step gets us closer than ever before :)
