2. Select a Platform and Hosting Provider 

There are several different website providers and platforms to host them on. Wordpress, Weebly, Wix, and Squarespace are the major platforms. 

Wordpress is the most popular platform and allows for the most customization. The hosting provider, Bluehost, pairs well with Wordpress offering a 1-click installation.

1. Select an Appropriate URL

Earlier we mentioned selecting your domain name. This URL not only impacts your branding messaging, but it also impacts your search engine results. 

Google decides how to rank you based on what your site is about. Remember to use relevant keywords and avoid special characters and words that are too long or hard to spell. 

2. Select Keywords

What words will your potential clients be searching for on Google? Will they be looking for a wedding planner in Orlando, FL or corporate event planner in Atlanta, GA? 

Put yourself in the client's shoes and understand what they are looking for and how they will phrase that. Next, you will need to niche down because those general terms are very competitive and hard to rank for. 

Do you have a specialty? Are your children's parties educational? Do you focus on teenagers specifically? 

Get specific but be sure that the keywords still align with your service offering. 

Once you've selected 5-10 keywords, use them throughout your site. Use the words in your image alt text, blog content, service descriptions, and anywhere that's applicable. 

3. Create Titles and Descriptions for Each Page

Place your mouse on your browser tab. That short phrase that pops up under your mouse is the title of the page.

The page titles and descriptions are among the first things Google uses to determine your site’s rank.

Did you know that you can write a unique title and description for each page on your website? These are brief texts that accurately and clearly describe what your business does, ideally with a few keywords and phrases added in. 

Once your site shows in a search results page, users will read your title and description to learn what your site is about. From there they will decide to visit your site or to keep scrolling, making your descriptions crucial to attracting new visitors. 

4. Add ALT Text to Your Images

Search engines aren't as great as reading images, as they are with text. Because of this inability, it's best to write an "alt text" for images used on your website, especially in blog posts. 

Alt-text is a short and concise written description of each image on a website. When writing alt text, be sure to accurately describe what is shown in the image, but also try to include the name of your business or a few relevant keywords. 

5. Use Internal Links

Internal links are the clickable words on your site that take the user to a different page.

Just like a human visitor, search engines will click on links to visit different pages on your site.

The Google Bot crawls websites by following links, internal and external, to determine the relationship between the various pages, posts and other content.

This bot arrives at the homepage of a website, starts to render the page and follows the first link. If all links have similar content, your page will rank higher.
