Thanksgiving Fun at Work: Creative Ideas for Your Office Celebration!

November 18, 2022 Susan Serena

It’s that time of the year again! Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and with it comes a host of traditions, from pumpkin pie to football games and everything in between.

This holiday season is no different when it comes to your office celebrations. Whether you’re an Event Planner in New York who wants to take things old school or modernize them, there are plenty of fun Thanksgiving games for work parties that will make your company party one to remember!

It’s no secret that we live in a fast-paced world. Technology has made it easier for us to connect with others, but it also makes it harder for us to slow down and enjoy the little things in life. One of the best ways for an Event Planner in New York to bring back some of that old-fashioned fun is with Thanksgiving games at work.

These games are a great way to bring everyone together, regardless of their age or job title.

3 Thanksgiving Games for Your Office Party:

1. “Turkey in the Straw” This is a classic Thanksgiving party game that everyone will love. It’s a simple game where each person gets up and does a silly dance while holding onto their drink with one hand and a piece of straw in the other. The goal is to make it through all three verses of “Turkey in the Straw” without losing your drink or dropping your straw. If you drop your drink, it’s game over. The winner can keep the straw as a trophy.

2. “Slap It Away” This is another classic Thanksgiving party game that anyone can play. First, divide the group into two teams and stand them facing each other with a few feet of space between them. Next, have the teams line up behind their respective captains, who are standing in front of each team. Each captain holds a plate or other flat object that they can use to slap away any ball that comes towards them. The first team to get rid of all of their balls wins.

3. “Crab Walk” This is a great game for groups with a lot of children. First, divide your guests into teams of two and line them up facing each other with about 2 feet between each person. Next, have one player from each team begin crawling on all fours towards their partner while trying to avoid the person behind them who is also crawling towards them. The first team to get all players safely across wins the game.

Creative Ideas for Your Office Celebration

The office celebration is an important event that an Event Planner in New York should put a lot of thought and effort into. This will help to ensure that everyone has a good time and enjoys the day, which in turn will make it more likely that people will remember it fondly for years to come.

Here are a few ideas that you can implement at your office celebration to help make it more memorable and enjoyable for everyone involved.

Host a Potluck Lunch

Hosting a potluck lunch gives everyone the chance to bring a dish and make their own contribution, but you’re still in charge of the menu. You can ask for donations from everyone, or you can do what I did (because I like being lazy) and have a sign-up sheet for each category:

  • Food
  • Drinks
  • Dessert (or just “sweet” if there are no other desserts planned)

It’s also nice to take care of all your guests by asking them to bring their own plates and utensils if they want a dish made by someone else. That way, people who aren't bringing food don't have to buy everything they need at Target before work on Thanksgiving Day.

As an alternative, you can use one of New York’s Best Catering companies to bring in a smorgasbord of food and let everyone grab at it!

Wear Colorful Socks

If you want to get into the spirit of Thanksgiving, then wear colorful socks! They don't have to be flashy or bright—just a little bit different from your usual black, white, brown and red pairs.

No matter where your company’s office is located (or even if it’s in a home), you can give everyone something fun to talk about by wearing these kinds of socks:

  • White with turquoise stripes
  • Yellow with hot pink polka dots
  • Black with orange stripes

Share What You're Thankful for

As you can see, the possibilities are endless. And if your office doesn't have a budget for gifts or parties (or if it does and you're just too cheap), there's no need to worry. You can still have a fun time by taking a moment at the end of the day to reflect on what makes us grateful and sharing that gratitude with others.

I hope this helps make Thanksgiving in the workplace easier for everyone!
