Escape NYC for an Apple Orchard and Pumpkin Patch Adventure
Fall in New York means apple picking, pumpkin patches, corn mazes, cider donuts, hayrides, and a very good excuse to get out of the city for the day. From a historic farm right in Queens to acres upon acres of orchards across New York and New Jersey, these six spots make it easy to plan a fall outing.
Queens County Farm Museum
73-50 Little Neck Pkwy, Queens, NY
You can start your fall farm adventure without leaving NYC. Queens County Farm Museum is 47 acres and dates back to 1697. It is one of the longest continuously farmed sites in New York State. Its pumpkin patch operates throughout October and offers free admission and pumpkins priced by size. Visit weekdays from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM or weekends from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Elwood Pumpkin Farm
1500 E Jericho Tpke, Huntington, NY
Elwood Pumpkin Farm has the classic pumpkin patch experience. The farm opens for the 2026 season on September 20th, and admission is $10 per person. Kids 4 and under get in free with a parent. Your admission also includes the child-friendly corn maze and photo opportunities. For another fall activity, hop on the wagon ride through the farm’s 22 acre Christmas tree farm for an additional fee.
Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard
130 Hardscrabble Rd, North Salem, NY
If you want your apple picking to come with a full fall festival, put Harvest Moon on the list. The Fall Festival takes place throughout September and October, and the pumpkin patch opens September 19th. Pick apples, take a hayride, listen to live country music, grab a cider donut, or stop by the Fun Zone for an obstacle course and Farm Hoppers. Hard cider, sweet cider, BBQ, burgers, and other food vendors round out the day.
Fishkill Farms
9 Fishkill Farm Rd, Hopewell Junction, NY
Fishkill Farms has a serious apple selection: more than 100 varieties grow on the farm. The Fall Harvest Festival takes place each weekend from September 12th through November 1st, plus Columbus Day on October 12th. Pick apples and pumpkins, take a wagon ride, tackle the one acre corn maze, listen to live music, and grab food from the Farmer’s Fork Outdoor Food Stand. The Treasury Cider Bar pours hard cider made from the farm’s own apples, and yes, there are cider donuts, too.
Barton Orchards
63 Apple Tree Ln, Poughquag, NY
Barton Orchards is the pick for a full day of fall activities. Apple picking is available daily during the season, and pumpkin picking usually starts in mid-September. Beyond the orchards, you can check out their five acre themed corn maze, visit the petting zoo, catch live music, and enjoy hayrides during festival weekends. The Hudson Valley Apple Festival takes place October 3rd and 4th, followed by the Harvest Festival October 10th through 12th.
Alstede Farms
1 Alstede Farms Ln, Chester, NJ
Alstede Farms packs a lot into a Pick Your Own day. Apple and seasonal produce picking come with access to the corn maze, hay wagon rides, Blooming Giants Sunflower Trail, Giant Hay Pyramid, Evergreen Adventure Maze, and Tractor Tire Slide. An Activities Plus Pass adds a pony ride, wagon train ride, and bounce house. It is a great choice when the goal is a farm day rather than a quick stop for apples.
