5 Ways to Utilize Social Media for Event Planning

March 15, 2022 Jessica Stewart

In the modern day, social media is the key to any marketer or event planner to showcase their business and spread the word about their next event. It is also a fantastic way to promote communication and create a dialogue within your platforms. There are thousands of social media apps out there, and it can be daunting to some when deciding which one to pick. The first step is to establish your goals, and do your research to figure out what aspects of social media would benefit you the most. Once you have determined what apps are going to work best for you, there are several methods to boost productivity and make your marketing the best it can be. Let’s take a look at some effective ways to utilize social media to increase attendance to your next great event.

Video Marketing

Video is the key to reaching out to a mass audience. Studies have shown that Facebook posts with videos attached will get 59% more engagement compared to posts without them. Those increases in views stretch across other social media apps as well, including Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Humans are very visual, so they are far more likely to be engaged when they see a compelling video in comparison to text. Video content also gives you a chance to get your face out there and tell your story. Do not find the need to make everything perfect. You want to be real and relatable to your viewers. High energy is extremely important, and make sure that your background is clean and not cluttered. OneMob is a great platform that allows you to create videos using templates, and send them to a mass audience via email or social media. You can incorporate links and call to actions to get attendees for your next event.

Build a Solid Community

While it might seem like your best bet is to get as many people engaged as possible, it is far more important to get the right attendees with similar interests. If you do this, they will work for you to spread the word about your events. Social media is all about community and creating a dialogue. You should be constantly posting videos on your social media platforms telling your story and sharing content relatable to your goals. Don’t feel like you have to be constantly asking for business. You want to engage your audience by sharing content that they can relate to. In turn, they will be compelled to take part in your events and encourage others to do the same. While apps like Facebook and Instagram are great in building a community, there are other platforms out there as well. Mighty Networks is a newer program that builds a community with similar interests. In Mighty Networks, you can spread the word about your event, live stream videos, and share content relatable to your company.

Get Feedback

As an event planner, you should constantly be learning and growing to make your business the best it can be. A great way to do that is to utilize social media to gain feedback about past events. After you have your community set, use the platform to get feedback. If new members see positive testimonials from past attendees, they are far more likely to attend your next event. In the current day of age, people are constantly looking at testimonials of past users when deciding if they want to buy a product. The same goes for event planning too. Don’t be discouraged if you get some negative feedback. Respond to those comments and tell them how you plan on fixing the problems. Nothing is ever perfect, and you have to be willing to learn from your mistakes so you can grow as a company. Survey Monkey is a great, and easy to use, tool to create surveys and get feedback. After you created your survey, you can post it on your social media accounts or reach out to attendees directly.

Create Engaging Content

Your content is everything when it comes to social media. It is likely that people will attend your event if they think that you will be the solution to their problems. The key to this is to already have the solution to your audience's problems ready to go. Feel free to post videos and content that doesn’t directly ask people to attend your event. For example, if your event is about digital marketing, you could post a video describing three ways to increase your digital marketing tools. This, in turn, will tell your audience that you know what you are talking about, and they will be far more likely to check out your call to actions. Get creative with your posts and utilize apps like Canva or Snapseed to create good and colorful graphics that will catch the eyes of your potential attendees. Know who your audience is, get feedback, and grow off of that to constantly be posting valuable content that will encourage them to attend your next event.

Create Social Media Ads

While it may be intimidating to put money down for advertising, if you are completely invested and believe in your business, you should be willing to do just that. If you want to make money, you need to spend money, and using social media ads is a smart investment when trying to spread the word about your next event. To start, you need to know your audience and where they are on the internet. Creating a Facebook Business Manager account is a great way to utilize the program to increase event attendance. Facebook Business Manager gives you state of the art tools to market your business including creating advertisements. Once you design ads specific to your event, you can choose where to post them and create traffic that leads back to your landing pages. After your ads are created and posted online, you can track the efficiency of each ad through the program. This is a perfect way to showcase your next event and track the progress while doing so.
